What the Scope Names Before You Order
Panel profile and seam type
Snap-lock or mechanically seamed, and the rib height. These are different products with different behaviour, and premium metal is not a specification.
Gauge
The steel thickness. This is the number most quotes leave out and it is the one that decides how the roof handles impact and foot traffic.
Finish
The coating system and the colour, and what the finish warranty actually covers — chalk, fade and adhesion are separate things.
Fastener method
Concealed clips or exposed fasteners, and on an exposed system, the washer and its expected service life, because that washer is the wear item.
Underlayment and thermal movement
Metal expands and contracts more than asphalt, and the detail has to allow for it rather than pin the panel down and hope.
Penetration and edge detail
Where pipes, vents and flues come through, and how the eave, rake and ridge are closed.
Systems We Install
Standing seam, with concealed fasteners, raised seams between panels and no penetration through the panel face — the version most people mean when they say metal roof. Exposed-fastener panel, a lower-cost profile common on shops, barns and outbuildings. And metal shingle or tile profiles, stamped panels that read as shingle or tile from the ground, for houses where a standing-seam look would be out of place on the street.
Honest Limitations
Metal is not silent, though a solid deck and underlayment make far more difference than most people expect. It dents — impact-resistant is not impact-proof, and a heavy hail event can leave cosmetic marks on a roof that is still performing perfectly. And it is unforgiving of bad installation in a way asphalt is not, because a misaligned seam does not hide.
